Oldbury UK celebrates its 150th Anniversary

Commercial Vehicle Show: 12-14 April 2011
NEC Birmingham: Hall 5, Stand 5J70

Oldbury UK participates in the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC this week – as the start of the company’s 150th anniversary celebrations. Today, Oldbury UK is a diversified specialist trailer, transport equipment and engineering company – all a long way from the company’s beginnings in Wednesbury in 1861, when Isaiah Oldbury founded the business, manufacturing springs, axles and components for horse drawn carriages and carts.

Now part of Skan Group Holdings and based in Wolverhampton, the company serves sectors including road transport, construction, extraction, waste management, defence and aerospace. Its fully accredited TUV ISO 9001 engineering capabilities include the design, development, manufacture, integration and supply of trailers, transportable systems, ruggedised ancillary equipment and carrier platforms from lightweight applications through to maximum weight special types.

Oldbury Managing Director, Richard Skan says, “We are very proud of Oldbury’s heritage, not least as one of the few privately owned British transport engineering companies to have survived in a range of extremely competitive market sectors. We are fortunate to have a highly skilled workforce – and reaching this anniversary is in no small way an acknowledgement of their dedication and loyalty to the firm”.

Oldbury’s facility covers a 2.5 acre site, of which 30,000 sq. ft. is enclosed and includes overhead craneage; extensive fabrication, erecting and fitting bays; a two booth 4,000 sq. ft. paint shop; a dedicated axle shop and advanced CAD and design engineering capabilities.
